A Message from Suzanne

Hi! Writing to you from the studio where we have been holed up for three days working on songs for the new album. That’s the NEW album, not another Close-Up Series album! We are aiming for this to come out in February of 2014.The songs we did here are Song of the Stoic, Jacob and the Angel, Queen of Pentacles (Fool’s Complaint) and Crack in the Wall. Gerry Leonard is producing. We will do a second batch of recording in September. We are also gearing up for our shows in Hong Kong and Japan! Hong Kong is July 25 and Fuji Rocks Festival is July 27. When we get back I’ll be at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts in North Carolina (on the same bill as Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter.) Also coming up is my usual summer show at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett on August 3, Denver Botanic Garden (with Bruce Cockburn) on August 6, and the Myrna Loy Center For the Performing and Media Arts in Montana. More dates coming in September and all through the fall!

Oh and don’t let me forget the one this Sunday in Rockport, MA at the Shalin Liu performance center! Come and see Gerry and I before we go off  to Asia!

The big news of the last couple of weeks were Ruby’s birthday on July 8, and mine on July 11. Thanks for all the birthday wishes on Facebook and Twitter! And as usual we celebrated on the road, this time with a big cake from Phil’s mom. We did a couple of shows at the City Winery to celebrate the winding down of the Close-Up Series, which were pretty great. And we recorded one of the shows for a DVD coming out as part of the Close-Up Box set at Christmas.

So next time I write to you will be from Hong Kong! Stay tuned!

This is Zak Alford – I went to school with him and his brother. Haven’t seen him since he was 7! He is playing drums on some tracks for the new album produced by Gerry Leonard.
